OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WTVC) — You could say this prom night catch was 'off the hook.'
A prom night couple in the Knoxville area reeled in a big fish out of a nearby lake for all to see, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).
The International Game Fish Association reports the all-tackle world record for walleye was 25 pounds 0 ounces pulled out of Old Hickory Lake, Tennessee on Aug. 2, 1960, by Mabry Harper.
MaryJo Mattingly and Luke Lankford of Anderson County High School north of Knoxville went night fishing on Melton Hill Lake after their junior prom last Saturday.
The independent state agency, whose mission is to foster the safe use of the state's waters and enjoyment of the citizens of Tennessee, celebrated the 7.06-pound walleye catch.
The TWRA posted the pictures on social media celebrating the catch pointing out "she still has her makeup and nails on!"
They mean the fisherman, not the fish.
Since Monday morning the prom date's post netted more than 2,000 likes, nearly 200 comments and more than 300 shares on Facebook.
