PALM BAY, Fla. (WPEC) — A Florida man accused of driving 100 miles per hour in a 40 mph zone told police he had to get his girlfriend to Taco Bell for a job interview.
Police in Palm Bay, on the Space Coast, arrested Jevon Pierre Jackson, of North Lauderdale, for reckless driving last Tuesday, March 21.
According to the arrest report, Jackson got clocked going 60 mph over the speed limit.
It said he even passed an officer in his speedy run down a road, and the officer wrote Jackson's Mercedes caused a dump truck to swerve to the shoulder, to avoid a head-on crash. The officer also swerved off the road before making that traffic stop.
Police said Jackson, who turned 23 since the traffic stop, got out of the Mercedes and walked over to the officer. Then, the report said, Jackson admitted to being wrong but explained he had to speed to get his girlfriend to her Taco Bell job interview on time.
Jackson also denied driving 100 mph. He said he was only going 70.
Jackson was charged with reckless driving, which is a misdemeanor.
However, he was also charged with three counts ofchild neglect without great bodily harm since there werethree underage people in the car, one of whom was not in a child restraint system in the backseat.
Plus, Jackson was charged with being a habitual offender since he had multiple traffic citations. These other charges are all felonies.
He was released after two days in jail last Thursday, March 23, in lieu of $12,500 bond.
There's no word if his girlfriend made it to her interview or got the job, orwhose fault it was that they were running late.
