ORLANDO, Fla. (TND) — A Disney World employee has reportedly been arrested on child pornography charges.
Daniel Rivera, who has worked forWalt Disney World Parks and Resorts for about two decades, was apprehended Thursday, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The Disney worker, said to be a father of two, admitted to posting photos of his coworkers to a pornographic social media site, court records reportedly say.
The Orlando Sentinel reports investigators found a file-sharing account that contained child porn had been accessed at both Rivera's home and on Disney property. A spokesperson for Walt Disney World reportedly confirmed that Rivera "has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the charges."
An investigation reportedly began back in September afterthe Orange County Sheriff’s Office was tipped off by theNational Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a Dropbox file-sharing account was allegedly hosting child porn.
The offending account being investigated was found to contain files that showed children under the age of 10 engaging in sex acts with men, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Dropbox reportedly assisted with the investigation and provided IP addresses of where the offending account was being accessed, which led investigators to Rivera.
Court records also say that, during the investigation, authorities were able to access Rivera's social media accounts and emails. Those accounts reportedly led investigators to Rivera's activity on thepornographic social media site, where he had made 155 posts.
Those posts contained "several photos of young girls and women he claims he knows," according to court records in Rivera's case. The Orlando Sentinel reports that some of the photos shared by Rivera on that porn social media site showed people dressed as Disney characters, with captions that identified them.
Rivera allegedly posted on that pornographic social media site that "hot teens in mouse ears are a weakness of mine," according to the New York Post. Rivera also reportedly shared a photo of an underage girl, who was the daughter of his coworker, wearing a cheerleading uniform. The Disney worker allegedly said in that photo's caption he was "fantasizing about having sex and impregnating her."
Rivera reportedly admitted to investigators that he had "digressed into looking for child pornography in the last year or two," and that he had been engaged in seeking out and obtaining child porn "about once a week for the last 10 years."
Before being arrested, Rivera spoke to his wife on the phone, the Orland Sentinel reports. He reportedly told her that "I have a problem I guess," and that "I tried to fix myself but I never could."
The National Desk has reached out to Walt Disney World in regards to Rivera's arrest, asking for additional comment and to independently confirm details.
A response has yet to be received, but once obtained, it will be added to this article.
Disney World employees are often referred to as "cast members." Disney CEO Bob Iger says the term is used because "everyone who works for Disney is an actor in a giant, ongoing show.”
