The cost for personal care products is rising across the country and that includes essential feminine hygiene products like pads and tampons.
Data from the Bureau for Labor Statistics shows the cost of those products have increased more than 10% in just over two years. Many women are feeling the burden in their wallets.
“We need it and we have to have it and we’re going to buy it.” said Atarah Israel. "It’s like easily, it’s a quick three or four extra dollars every month on whatever products I buy."
Deborah Thompson has also felt the strain.
“I could not believe some of the prices. 20 something dollars just for a package of tampons. For just pads, it was what about 10,” said Thompson.
Women are now considering alternative options to take care of their monthly cycle.
Some women are choosing generic brands of feminine products instead of their usual name brand choice. Others are considering investing in birth control to stop their menstrual cycle.
Israel has continued to pay the increased price for the disposable products like pads and tampons. Soon, she says she'll be moving to an alternative option.
"So I’ve actually considered going the reusable route because this disposable situation is just a little to high every month,” said Israel.

A study completed by Mayo Clinic Health System found those reusable options could be beneficial for women.
A reusable menstrual cup costs anywhere between $20-$40 and can last a woman six month to 10 years.
