The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and other local law enforcement officials responded to a report that a person went overboard on Smith Lake near Miller Bottom Monday afternoon.

UPDATE:Body of 60-year-old Cullman man recovered after drowning at Smith Lake

According to ALEA, 60-year-old Frankie D. Cruce was attempting to get a canopy which had fallen from his boat when we went overboard. Law enforcement assumes at this point that he drowned, but his body has not yet been recovered.

ALEA said they they got the call just before 2:00 P.M.

Authorities said they are trying to locate the person and sonar technology is being used in the search.

Boaters are asked to avoid the area as the search continues.

Cullman County EMS, ALEA and Cullman County Dive Team responded.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Cruce has not been found. ALEA said they can't speak for the other agencies, but they plan to stay on the water as long as it takes until his body is found.
