A two-vehicle crash involving a commercial vehicle caused a lane closure along Interstate 59 Saturday afternoon, according to a release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
The crash happened around 12:26 p.m. and lanes were closed near the 156 mile marker for more than two hours before re-opening.
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division are currently on scene investigating and will continue to monitor the situation.
In a social media post Friday, the Springville Police Department reported a pig was on the loose in the median of Interstate 59 near the 154 and 156 mile markers. The department said its officers along with animal control officers attempted to capture the pig but it was unsuccessful as of Friday afternoon.
"We ask that you not attempt to rescue it due to the potential safety hazard this would create on the interstate," the department's post stated. "The Springville Police Department is in contact with ALEA and state troopers to come up with a rescue solution that doesn’t involve shutting down both lanes of traffic."
