The Hoover Police Department is asking people to limit their distractions when in public spaces after a recent arrest made forvoyeurism.

We always encourage citizens to practice situational awareness any time they’re in public. Pay attention to your surroundings and the people around you at all times, never let your guard down when browsing or checking your phone, and shop with someone if possible because there is safety in numbers.

The suspect is identified as 28-year-old Brandon Dupree Lima.

He is accused of taking upskirt pictures of female customers without their consent in a local Belk.

Lima was booked into the Jefferson County Jail last week but bonded out quickly after.

Initial investigation found the act could have been going on for several months with several possible victims.

Some in the community now have concerns about their safety while shopping.

“It’s such a breach of privacy. Like I just It’s terrible,” said Susan Rice.

Many others had the same reaction. Advanced technology gives potential predators more power to go undetected.

"Technology, it’s a blessing but it’s also a curse so you just have to continue to watch your surroundings. Just pay attention to things that seem different,"Shantiese Vandiber Jones said.

Investigators are asking anyone who recognizes Lima or believes they may have been a victim to call Detective Kevin Morris at 205-444-7615.

The case is still under investigation.
