GREENE COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Highway Patrol Division has started an investigation after a Greene County man died when he fell from a bridge after a crash on Interstate 59 early Friday morning.
The preliminary investigation indicates Lewis was standing on the roadway at the time of the crash, and there were two other vehicles involved after the initial impact.
Herbert J. Lewis, 60, of Boligee was killed when he fell from a bridge after being struck by the 2008 Ford Escape that he was initially driving. Police said his vehicle was struck by a 2022 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Brandon R. Myers, 24, of Tuscaloosa and a 2008 Dodge Ram driven by Jonah R. Richardson, 25, of Williamsburg, Va.
Lewis was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.

The crash occurred near the 55 mile marker, approximately one mile north of Knoxville, in Greene County.
Both southbound lanes were closed and remained closed as of 8:00 a.m. Authorities asked drivers to prepare and plan for traffic delays and to make the appropriate detours.
As of 9:00 a.m., the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reported that the crash scene was clear. Traffic will continue to be diverted onto U.S. 11 until around 10:00 a.m.
