Fans descended on Downtown Birmingham Friday to see athletes compete in the World Games. From Avondale to Uptown and Five Points West, multiple venues are in use for sporting events.
"Of all places they could have come to, they came to my hometown Birmingham, which is really cool," said Birmingham Resident Adams McKnight.
An all women security team manned the Avondale Park entrance. Bags and pockets were emptied in order for fans to see the archery competition.
"I love archery. I've been doing it for two years, so that's why we decided to go to the archery one," said Cheyenne Barnett.
Twelve-year-old Cheyenne and her eight-year-old brother, Hudson Barnett, came from California to see the games with their grandparents.
"I think it's really fun," Barnett said. "And being able to experience this in mine and Hudson's lifetime is so fun."
The support being felt not just at the World Games but also businesses.
"So far now they had their first lunch break and everybody just packed us out real quick," said Munchies on 5th Owner Chris Hollaman.

A real relief as Munchies on 5th stocked and staffed up for the games.
"It's makes me feel good man to give them some of this down south flavor," Hollaman said.
It had been a steady flow of people on Friday but not as crowded as anticipated. However, archery was the only event scheduled for Avondale Park. Security onsite said crowds were manageable.
