PELL CITY, Ala. (WBMA) — At least two suspects are being sought on connection to a deadly hit-and-run in Pell City Sunday evening.
The Pell City Police Department said a woman, later identified as 46-year-old Rebekah Poe, was struck just before 7:30 p.m. in the area of Funderburg Lane and Skyline Trail.
"This is such a sudden thing for us. we're all just trying to wrap our heads around it," said Tim Hodge.
Hodge is the CEO of non-profit Rainbow Omega that provides services to adults with developmental disabilities, where Poe's husband Scotty is employed.
"The whole Rainbow Omega family is just stunned by the event. We're saddened for the loss of life. We love and appreciate Scotty and his family. We appreciate what he means to Rainbow Omega and our thoughts are with him. Our prayers are with him, and we just ask that everyone to hold them tight tonight in their prayers and thoughts," Hodge continued.
"When the opportunity arises to assist them, in any way that we can, not only in the next couple of days but in the coming weeks and months," he added.
When officers responded to the incident, police said they learned Poe confronted suspects who were believed to have broken into vehicles at a residence on Skyline Trail.
During the confrontation with the suspects, police said Poe was run over and killed.
